Frank Manning 1914-2009

Kurz vor seinem 95. Geburtstag, den Swing-Tänzer weltweit mit ihm feiern wollten, ist Lindy-Hop-Legende Frankie Manning am 27. April 2009 in New York gestorben. Der "Poet der Tanzfläche" (Bette Midler) hat sich zeitlebens mit unvergleichlicher Virtuosität und Musikalität für den Lindy Hop eingesetzt sowie mit seiner Leidenschaft unzählige Tänzer inspiriert und tief berührt. Wir werden ihn sehr vermissen und sehen es als unsere Aufgabe an, die durch ihn erfahrene Lebensfreude am Tanzen auch künftigen Generationen zu vermitteln.

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Swing legend and "Ambassador of Lindy Hop” Frankie Manning. He died on April 27th in New York, only a month before his 95th Birthday, which Lindy Hoppers around the world had looked forward to celebrate with him. With his outstanding virtuosity and musicality the "poet of the dance floor"(Bette Midler) has been an advocat of Lindy Hop throughout his life. His passion has inspired and deeply touched countless dancers. He will be greatly missed. To us, his legacy means conveying his joy of dancing and of being alive also to future generations of dancers.
